Film production in the Nordic countries has historically drawn from a vast array of cultural sources, each of which has left its unique mark on this transnational art form. This course will provide an introduction the origins and development of Scandinavian film over the past 100 years. The focus will be to acquaint participants with the traditions, directors. themes and narrative styles of this broad and rich subject.Cost:

About the Instructor:
Thomas Birnie holds a Ph.D. in German Literature, with a doctoral minor in Scandinavian Studies, from the University of Washington. He has taught Scandinavian subjects at Portland State University since 1990 and is actively engaged in Nordic events locally.
