About this Event
Be transported to MusicTalks’ 1920s European Art Salon. In this immersive concert experience, the music of Ravel, Satie, Schulhoff, and Kauder will be performed live with stunning projections of visual art of the era.
Designed to immerse audiences in the rich tapestry of classical music, MusicTalks will offer fascinating insights and musical demonstrations that highlight the hope and tumult of the time, the unique musical textures and sonic influences that gave voice to the collective psyche of the 1920s. Expect to discover the strains of Far East philosophies, folk influences, and the deep emotional release of a world reeling from the experience of WWI.
As in every Masterpiece Sunday, the Ravel Sonata for Violin and Cello is paired with a lesser known gem: the Duo for Violin and Cello by Erwin Schulhoff, a Jewish Austrian-Czech composer whose style combines lush Romanticism with folk music. The program is rounded out by Erik Satie’s Gnossienne and Hugo Kauder's Sonata for Violin and Cello.
Featuring Masha Polishchuk (violin) and Valeriya Sholokhova (cello), the concert will also include a meet and greet with the artists after the performance.
Each 75-minute, no-intermission concert emphasizes intimacy and audience engagement, featuring world-class musicians, insightful introductions to the artists and their works, and opportunities for dialogue between the performers and the audience.
