Masterclass with Carmen Maria Machado in Mengi. The event is part of Queer Situations Literary Festival.
This two-hour masterclass explores the possibilities of blending fact and imagination in nonfiction. Through a mix of lecture, guided discussion, and Q&A, Carmen Maria Machado will examine how speculative elements—such as surrealism, horror, and fabulism—can be used to deepen personal narrative, challenge conventional truth-telling, and expand the boundaries of memoir and essay. Participants will engage with key techniques, consider ethical and creative questions, and leave with new approaches for crafting bold, genre-defying work.
