Vox Luminis is a Belgian early music vocal ensemble created in 2004 by Artistic Director Lionel Meunier. The ensemble performs in Belgium, across Europe and around the world. Its unique sound appeals as much through the personality of each timbre as it does through the color and the uniformity of the voices. The size and composition of the group depends on the repertoire, and most of the singers are from the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. The repertoire is essentially Italian, English and German and spans from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The concert at Church Street UMC on October 29 will feature works by Baroque German masters. Using Brahms’ A German Requiem from the Romantic period as a template, Meunier has assembled a collection of older settings of the requiem’s texts, rather than setting them in a more modern style. Thus, the program for the evening is “A German Baroque Requiem.”
