The host of the in conjunction with The Big Romance present the Listen Closely series of listening parties, a night featuring a focus album from an artist we love on the last Wednesday of the month.

This month: Wednesday January 28th, 7pm.

The third album from the British pioneers radically reshaped the band's own bright trip-hop, soul and hip-hop with darker tones of electronic, industrial, and gothic distorted guitars. Mezzanine eschews the band's trademark warmth for magnified atmospheres drawing on paranoia, negative space, and whispered vocals to create a mood that mirrored the anxieties of the digital age.

It also happens to feature the band's single biggest hit with the heartbeat soul of 'Teardrop' featuring Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser on vocals, alongside Massive Attack. classics like the eerie trip-hop of 'Inertia Creeps', the monochromatic smoked out paranoia of Risingson, the cloudbursting 'Exchange' and the dark dub minimalism of opener 'Angel'.
