This book is like a wandering pathway of hidden discoveries enduring a balancing act between woman-artist hood and motherhood. It is a selection of 90 reproductions of hand-pulled original illustrations by Mary Leigh Campbell along with her enlightenment in written text of poetry, prose or musings about art life and home life. This is a “coffee table” book to inspire contemplation and conversation.
The quotes tell us what’s behind the artwork: the “take” from those inner thoughts that only the artist can reveal. This is like an “adult picture book” beautifully laid out with each turn of the page, with a new feast for your eyes and a meaningful “quote about her 'arty'."
Mary Leigh Campbell started Printmaking in the 80’s and has never stopped. She has a background in teaching Art in both Elementary Schools and adult printmaking and textile design. She studied Graphic Design and Printmaking in California, as well as achieving a certification for Interior Design at U C Santa Cruz. Born on the West (left) Coast, she has lived and worked in her field all her life. Mary Leigh has written 5 children’s books about a dog named Benito, as well as co-written a book called The Greatest Show on Earth with her illustrations. She enjoys “off-time” escape retreats boating to a remote Island, off the coast of the 49th parallel where no services of the modern world exist to this day! Four decades of cabin dwelling with trees, rock and ocean, comes years of “Island Pioneering” and much creative space for art making and bringing thoughts to words.
