Synopsis:
We all get sick. We go along our way each day accepting that illness and injury are part of living a full life. We all will seek medical support at some point in our lives as we likely have already. However, most of us do not understand fully what it is to heal or to be healed. In In the Room, Dr. Felkner explores how becoming well or healing is not a simple transaction between clinician and patient. She splays wide open the trend that care comes with information bytes. As both pediatrician and patient, she shares her curiosity and conclusions from her experiences with us in a collection of essays ranging from simply wise to comical.
Author Bio:
Mary Martha Bledsoe Felkner, MD, is a retired physician who practiced pediatric medicine for twenty-five years. She attended Davidson College, the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at Vanderbilt University MEdical Center. She enjoys yoga, nature, piano, reading, working puzzles, playing bridge and mahjong, and spending time with friends and family she as three adult children and lives with her husband, Pete, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
