@martialartsband - An emergent movement as much as a band, Martial Arts’ killing of convention by a thousand irresistible abstract punk cuts, continues with their third single ‘Triumph’ backed by BBC Radio 6 music. Their intense live performances quickly caught the eyes and ear of a key few. With shows for Akoustik Anarkhy, So Young Magazine, Speedy Wunderground, Now Wave & Beyond the Music Festival achieved through word of mouth alone, the 5 piece have emerged as a must see band from the Manchester underground. We discovered Martial Arts lunch time Saturday at The Great Escape in a sweaty but capacity basement venue.
@hollyhead.band - Committed and controversial, Manchester’s rising, kinetic, beat-powered punk four-piece, Holly Head, return for 2025 with their scuffed and confrontational, two-and-a-half-minute blast of incisive social commentary, Whatever Drags You Through It. Sharp, funky and rapid-fire, the band’s home city reputation spreads further this year with a run of 14 UK Tour dates, including their debut at Brixton’s Windmill next month and two, scheduled Dot To Dot festival appearances. This will be their first time back since supporting Sprints at Bootleg in May.
@abandcalledshockhorror - Shock Horror - Known for experimental structures balanced with contagious melodies, the four piece draw on styles ranging from post-punk, ambient, progressive rock and more. Live highlights for the band stretch over an already fruitful career, including a coveted slot at Truck Festival. “They’ve got something special that band” - Dave Gilyeat, BBC Introducing.
