Sherrie Hewson is a leading British actress, widely known for her appearances in the UK’s most loved sitcoms, panel shows and soap operas. Having appeared in programmes such as Benidorm and Coronation Street, Sherrie has entertained the public since the 1970s and continues to entertain audiences in cameos across television. Best known for her talents as an actress, well-loved TV personality Sherrie is famed for her roles as Maureen Webster in Coronation Street, Virginia Raven in Crossroads, Lesley Meredith on Emmerdale and Joyce Temple-Savage in Benidorm. Also a panellist on Loose Women for 14 years, Sherrie has built a reputation for her natural ability to entertain and has kept British audiences laughing for countless decades. She has also appeared on shows such as Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity Masterchef, Dickinson’s Real Deal and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Sherrie has possessed a talent for acting and performing from a young age, first touring the UK theatres with performances when she was just six years old. She was then offered a scholarship to be educated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, before making her television debut in the 1970s. Some of her earliest TV appearances include Within These Walls, The Moonstone, Z Cars, The Sandbaggers, Juliet Bravo, The Gentle Touch, Play for Today and Afternoon Off. She also performed in Carry On Laughing, The Slipper and the Rose, Love for Lydia, Hanover Street, Madhouse and In Loving Memory in her early career.
In her later career, Sherrie landed some of her biggest roles such as recurring characters in Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Benidorm. She also made appearances on Barbara, 10 Years Younger, Get Your Act Together and Are You Being Served?. Sherrie has also shared her talents as a writer, publishing her own cookbook Nana’s Kitchen, the crime fiction novel The Tannery and the book Behind The Laughter.
