Want to be a Marshall next year? AT THE CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR
28 000 Cyclists were scheduled to take part in the Cape Town Cycle Tour. The first Cycle Tour around the Cape Peninsula was held in 1978 and to date over R 130 million has gone to charities to put into social upliftment projects.
The Goodwood Rotary Club forms part of the 1000 marshals volunteered by 35 Rotary Clubs, all registered with the Cycle Tour and over 18years old.
Members of our Rotary club marshal after the finish line and our function is to keep the cyclists moving until they exit into the public arena after receiving their medals.
We work under the guidance of the @Rotary Club of Bellville, who control the entire “Finish Area”.
We proudly wear our Neon Yellow Goodwood Rotary Golf Shirts complete with branding.
We check-in upon arrival and check-out when a shift is complete. This year the shifts were 8am to 1pm and 12.30pm to 5pm. A great achievement energy interaction with all the cyclists that have just completed 109 km on their bicycle!
Interestingly enough, one of our members has marshalled at the “Argus” (as it was called) and the current Cycle Tour for approximately 30 years. It is in our blood, to marshal and get paid an hourly rate by the tour administrators, which goes to various community projects.
