In one of her finest comedic performances, Marilyn Monroe stars as a saloon singer, whose plans of Hollywood are lassoed in a new direction by a stubborn cowboy.Cherie (Monroe) is a singer at a divey Phoenix nightclub, far away from her hometown in the Ozarks, but still not far enough. She dreams of a new life in Hollywood, but her plans are suddenly derailed when the rodeo comes to town, bringing with it a lovestruck cowboy (Don Murray) who approaches courtship with the subtlety of a steer roping competition.
Dissatisfied with the roles being assigned to her after completing The Seven Year Itch, Bus Stop marked Monroe's return to the big screen after a one-year absence. While away she enrolled in the Actors Studio and formed Marilyn Monroe Productions, before signing a new contract with 20th Century Fox, granting her script and director approval. This marked a turning point in her career.
