About this Event
Children and animals loved her and she adored them. She tried to be good ...but she was just LITTLE MISS MISUNDERSTOOD!
If it had been up to the canine community, things would have turned out differently for MARIE ATTOINETTE. Constantly with a dog in her arms, the Austrian princess Marie Antonia, only 15, was matched to the French Dauphin LOUIS AUGUSTE in an attempt to repair the two countries’ terrible relationship. Initially, the French people welcomed the young MARIE ANTOINETTE (as she became). They were charmed by the young princess’s beauty and grace, and embraced the couple’s union in hopes of a new and less autonomous regime.
Then WHAT Happened? MA, on the one hand, found it difficult to acclimate to the strict routines and rituals of the French court. But on the other, she loved the lavish fashions and entertainments….banquets and operas and arts and games of all kinds. As queen, she tried to support change, but the stories of her gambling and spending spread. SHE became the perfect scapegoat . SHE was blamed for France's impoverished conditions when actually the country's financial crisis was directly attributable to years of unfair policies and taxation long before MA was even on the scene. But as the French revolted and abolished the monarchy, MA became a symbol for everything that was wrong. From love to hate, France turned on her and MA could not slow down the rumor mill. So many false stories plagued her legacy….the most famous…When told the people had no bread, (was that) SHE said, ”then let them eat cake”. NOT TRUE.
Let there be no doubt, however, that despite her blunders, MARIE ANTOINETTE's charm and grace shone through to the very end. It is written that moments before she met her death, she remained calm and polite, even apologizing to her executioner for accidentally stepping on his foot.
Betrothed, beloved, besmirched… BE-HEADED.
Enjoy a Semi-Immersive Experience including a complimentary Coronation Champagne Toast at the table; Crepes from CrepeTime Catering; Cake and Delectable Confections from Bittersweet; music from Lyricosa String Quartet... and thoughts from Marie Antoinette's minions.
