Mariana Carvalho and Paula Sanchez is a duo that has been playing together since 2019. Originally playing piano and cello with diverse materials and preparations, especially threads, they also play using voice, water and pots, plastic, cellophane and pedals. Their latest set involves glass, transducers and samples. They released a record by the label Neue Numeral in 2023.
Mariana Carvalho is a performer, musician and sound artist. She works with the body and interactions between bodies, mostly through voice, technological mediation, improvisation, internal listening, contact, self-built instruments and prepared piano. Collaboration is a big part of her work, most lately happening in the fields of performative arts and dance.
Paula Sanchez works with sound in the intersections of experimental music, improvisation and performance art. Taking the materials to the limit, in the destruction/composition and decomposition of a mutable sound space. In the pure presence of an embodied sound, that invents relations as it makes its way into nothingness.
