ABOUT MARIA
Originally from Lviv, Ukraine, cellist Maria Savelyeva began her musical journey at the age of six at the Krushelnytska Special Music School under Professor Ludmila Komar. She later earned her Artist Certificate and Bachelor of Arts in Cello Performance from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, studying with Natalia Khoma. Maria is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree here at Lynn, under the guidance of David Cole.
Maria has received numerous accolades, including top prizes at international competitions such as Talents for Europe (Slovakia), Mejdynarodnyi Koncurs im. Janine Garsci (Poland), August Dombrowskis International Competition (Latvia), and the Ukrainian Chamber Music Competition. She has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Kyiv and Lviv, and with the College of Charleston Orchestra in 2021 and 2023.
Her ensemble experience includes performances with the First Ukrainian-Austrian Youth Orchestra Academy, the Orchestra of The Americas (Europe tour), and appearances at festivals such as Eurasia, Oyster Bay, Piccolo Spoleto, Spoleto Festival USA, and the Charleston Chamber Music Intensive. She has also performed at prestigious venues including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Merkin Hall in New York.
Maria has participated in masterclasses with renowned cellists including Alexander Buzlov, Alexey Seleznev, Denis Severin, Natalia Khoma, and violinist Ilya Kaler. In addition to performing, she served as an instructor at the Oyster Bay Music Festival, offering chamber coaching and private lessons.
Outside of music, Maria enjoys cooking, working out, hiking, and traveling to discover new places.
