When Admiral Farragut arrived on Mare Island in 1854, he found flat, bare land. Today, thanks to a tradition of ship captains bringing trees from their voyages, Alden Park is home to nearly 200 species from across the globe — touring it feels like traveling the world.
One of our favorites? The magnificent Bunya-Bunya tree near B47, the Administration Building, — a towering Australian native that can grow 100-150 feet tall, live up to 600 years, and drop cones weighing up to 40 lbs!
