Conservation translocations involve moving animals in the wild to help them survive, such as reintroducing species to a site where they formerly thrived, or expanding a species’ range to prevent extinction.Blake Klocke, PhD will discuss a successful pilot year head-starting Indiana Crawfish frogs (Lithobates areolatus) for conservation translocation. Find out how this project is creating new hope for these beautiful frogs.
A St. Paul native, Klocke has had a lifelong interest in herpetology. He earned his PhD from George Mason University and Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute studying methods to reintroduce critically endangered frogs threatened by chytrid fungus in Panama. Klocke has worked as Curator of Amphibians at Detroit Zoo and most recently as Indiana’s One Health Biologist.
