**Nature PEI's March and April 2026 Meetings will beheld at Assumption Parish Hall in Stratford due to construction at Beaconsfield Carriage House during those two months.**“Birds, Gorillas and Nature Travel in Uganda”, rescheduled from December, will be featured in an illustrated presentation by Dr. Kathy Martin and Diane Griffin at Nature PEI’s March meeting on Tuesday, March 3rd, Assumption Parish Hall, 151 Stratford Road, Stratford. The meeting starts at 7:30PM and includes sharing nature sightings, a fun raffle, and the presentation starting at 8PM.
Kathy and Diane travelled to the equatorial African country with a view to seeing interesting wildlife and spending some time with the Mountain Gorillas. They observed the interaction of people with wildlife, as well as the increasing importance of nature travel to the local economy. “Spending some time with the prehistoric looking bird, the Shoebill, a large stork-like bird, was an absolute thrill,” Griffin said. They noted that while there was excitement with such things as the Cardinal Woodpecker, the Gray Parrot, and five species of Kingfishers, nothing could compare to the family of gorillas they got to spend an hour with after trampling through the Bwindi Impenetrable forest.
Nature PEI meetings are free and all are welcome. The March and April meeting are at Assumption Hall while Beaconsfield Carriage House undergoes renovations. It may not be possible for the meeting to be livestreamed, but a recording may be available at a later date. For more information, see http://naturepei.ca or www.facebook.com/NaturePEI
