The groundwork for CERT Wilderness Park Search & Rescue started when the Battalion 5 Chief began working on the concept of having CERT volunteers assist the LAFD during a prolong search for a lost hiker. The plan was based upon lessons learned from the 2010 search and tragic death of Sally Menke. My goal is to continue with the plan and develop a CERT Wilderness Park Search protocol. Two important lessons learned from our drills; many of our volunteers need to improve their search skills and they need to improve their endurance to search the hills of Griffith Park. Since 2012 we've conducted CERT Community Hikes almost every month.
