We are thrilled to announce the 3rd performance of our 2025 Spring Season!
We are honored to host Louisiana native and ninth-generation Creole artist, Marcella Simien, as she brings us an intimate evening performance of her music and artistry on Friday, March 28th at ILÉ ÌFÉ. This will be a very special duo performance with Marcella on keyboards, piano, accordion, harmonium, frottoir (rubboard), and vocals. Her husband, Dustin, will accompany her on a stripped-down drum kit and harmonium. As always, we will be creating an atmosphere of elegance and communion for all of us to enjoy with cocktails and wines selected especially for the night and a curated selection of vinyl from our library to set the mood!
Of Simien’s music, ÌFÉ says, “I had the pleasure of working on the vinyl pressing of her latest album ‘To Bend to the Will of a Dream That's Being Fulfilled’ which she pressed here in town with the New Orleans Record Press. I fell in love with the record as I listened back again and again during the pressing process and later at home as I dug deeper into the music. Her soulful voice, captivating storytelling, and the beautiful electronic and acoustic textures in the work brought the album into focus in an intriguingly powerful way. Her music, and this album in particular, recall some of the best modern singer-songwriter records that I’ve known and loved, while reminding me that this expression is also a part of a wonderful legacy of powerful women in Louisiana music - modern protagonists like Maggie Koerner, Leyla McCalla, and A. J. Haynes feel right at home alongside Marcella and her beautiful work.”
