The Louis Moreau Institute for New Music Performance is celebrating its 11th anniversary season and over 10 years of presenting contemporary classical music to audiences in New Orleans. This year’s festival will feature Institute Artists from past seasons including violinist Rhiannon Banerdt, clarinetist Nicholas Davies, and cellist Zhihao Wu. They will be joined by violinist Emelyn Bashour as well as the Institute’s Assistant Artistic Director, acclaimed pianist Wesley Ducote. The centerpiece of the festival’s second and final concert will be Olivier Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time), composed in 1941 during Messiaen’s internment in a prisoner-of-war camp in Görlitz, Silesia (modern-day Poland). Complementing Messiaen’s work will be Past Light, a companion piece composed by the Institute’s Artistic Director, Morris Rosenzweig that serves as both a homage to and a dialogue with the French composer’s legacy.
