About this Event
The small, mostly forgotten wars of the 1850s in the American Pacific Northwest were part of a broader often genocidal war—the War on Illahee—to seize Native land for Euro‑Americans. Pioneers and their historians clashed over whether to celebrate or isolate these atrocities—and nearly succeed in erasing them.
Dr. Marc James Carpenter grew up in the Pacific Northwest and now works as a professor of history at the University of Jamestown.
