It was the first Mughal masterpiece in architecture... A majestic structure that set the standards for Mughal Garden Tombs.
Humayun's Tomb was the first Mughal Tomb that was built in India it represents the first shaky efforts of early Mughal emperors to build an empire in Hind... In its grandeur and perfection it showcases the power and prestige of that empire instilling awe and respect in all those who lay eyes on it and reinforcing the legitimacy and glorious ancestry of Akbar the Great under whose aegis it was built... It stands tall forcing us to acknowledge the contribution of Mughal women into the realms of politics architecture and empire building... Here graves reveal the secrets and intrigues of battles of succession and speak of vanquished dreams of royals who won't be kings... It was the last bastion of the dying flame of imperial power where the last Mughal Emperor was captured and the dynasty extinguished.
And it is here you will find us this weekend as we retell the saga of Mighty Mughals in the Mughal Necropolis! From Babur's love for gardens to the first Garden Tomb in India from the conquests of Akbar to the battles between Dara and Aurangzeb and finally the capture of Bahadur Shah Zafar after the revolt of 1857 we trace the beginnings and end of The Mughal Empire.
