Florida Orienteering volunteer Blaik teaches the class and we have loaner compasses if you don't yet own one.
This class is a continuation to our INTRO course, building on the skills learned in it.
This presentation covers intermediate navigation concepts and skills to take your orienteering to the next level and prep you to succeed on intermediate and advanced level courses. Topics include:
* A review of attack points
* “C.A.R.” route planning
* collecting features
* how to set and walk a compass bearing through the woods or off-trail
* how to estimate distance via pace counting
* using a "handrail” and catching features
* aiming off on a catching feature
* how to relocate when "temporarily misoriented," and
* changing your relationship with the feeling of being lost.
We suggest a $5 donation to participate in this class. Donations help support the REI Cooperative Action Fund. The Winter Park store recently donated to the Wekiva Wilderness Trust. To learn more about the Cooperative Action Fund, please visit https://www.reifund.org/
