About this Event
Building off our experience with the WNY Fusion Energy Forum - which was held in Rochester on Friday December 5th - this event aims to bring together stakeholders to understand the emerging fusion market. Two changes from last meeting:
- We will have a breakout session for community discussions.
- We will get startup customers involved in the meeting.
The goal for all these meetings will be to ensure WNY does not miss out on the fusion energy oppertunity. To that end, we need to break this knowledge of silos and get it into the hands of general industry.
This event - Manufacturing for the Fusion Industry - will focus on target production. Targets are a consumable, high-value product that are required for at least 10 fusion startups around the United States. We seek to answer a series of questions:
- What do we need to manufacture to make a useful target for a fusion startup?
- What machines or manufacturing processes are required?
- What local companies can perform this work?
Logistics: The event will be held at the NextCorp startup incubator in downtown Rochester. The address will be 260 East Main Street Suite 6000. (on the 6th Floor) in Rochester, NY, 14604. Background on the Fusion Energy Industry: The Fusion Industry has now raised over 13 billion in private investment and has over 56 startups. There are over 3,000 people working inside these firms with over 10,000 people touching this supply chain. China is building multiple facilities and signed an international fusion declaration with 10 member countries on November 25th. In October, Germany committed $2 billion dollars to fusion over the next 4 years. There has been steps taken in Japan, Korea, the UK and other countries. There are now a calls in Congress to inject $10 billion into the US Fusion Energy Ecosystem to kickstart US activity. States have also taken significant steps. At the start of October, California signed a state bill supporting fusion energy and the San Diego Economic Development Authority projected that fusion could bring 40,000 jobs and 125 billion dollars to the state. New Mexico raised 750 million in a state-bond and is using the funding to lure fusion startups. There have also been steps taken by Tennessee, Washington State, Wisconsin, Massachuttes and others to support this industry.
