WHAT'S MANCHESTER APARTHEID-FREE ZONE?
It's a type of movement based on face-to-face conversations, structured collective action, and building community bonds.
It's inspired by a similar initiative in Bristol - in turn based on anti-apartheid campaigns against South Africa in the 80s.
How it works:
- We knock on our neighbours' doors and have conversations about Palestine
- They sign a pledge to boycott Israeli produce
- We take those signatures to local shops to demonstrate local support for a boycott
- Both houses and shops put MAFZ posters in their windows
- Over time we grow in visibility and strength
Local shops are community hubs - seeing posters there reinforces the idea that Palestine solidarity is just common sense.
We're still in the initial stages of forming MAFZ, but we're already out doorknocking in Levenshulme every week.
Come along to our launch to find out more.
You can join our announcements chat on Whatsapp .
We're currently fundraising to pay for printing posters & flyers. Cash donations preferable on the day but we also have a for online donations.

THE FILM
Oscar nominated short film and BAFTA winner for Best Short Film in 2021, The Present is a 24 minute short drama that follows Yusef and his young daughter, Yasmine, in their effort to pick up a new fridge as an anniversary present for his wife.
They live in Bethlehem, and even though the store is in Jerusalem, he is determined to endure the dehumanising process of going through checkpoints , the armed soldiers’ scrutinizing gaze, and even humiliation to go shopping with his young daughter.
How difficult can it be?
