About this Event

This series of 3 webinars (you will need to attend all 3), are designed for people who are new to the area of managing people or who are supervising people but have had no formal training.

They are highly practical webinars giving live tips and techniques to support managers/supervisors work effectively with their teams in the future.

Modules run as follows:

Module 1 – Role & Responsibility/Leadership - 5th Nov(2024) 9.30 – 12.15

Module 2 – Communicating Effectively with your team - 12th Nov(2024) 9.30 – 12.00

Module 3 - Building & Motivating your team to perform - 19th Nov(2024) 9.30 – 12.00

Module One – Role & Responsibilities /Leadership Style

❖ To review the roles, and responsibilities of a First Line Manager

❖ Limits of authority and accountability

❖ Personal skills and abilities for effective team leading

❖ Understand a range of leadership styles, their use and potential impact on individuals and outputs


Module Two – Communicating effectively with your Team

❖ Key stages of the communication process and how to overcome some barriers.

❖ Review your own communication style and what it looks like to others and the impact that it has

❖ To review the essential skills to interact effectively

❖ Practice how you influence people using verbal and behavioural skills


Module Three - Building and Motivating your Team to perform

❖ The main components of building high quality teams

❖ The stages of team development and your role at each stage

❖ Understand what motivates people and the first line managers role in that

❖ Performance managing the team to get the best out of them.


Handouts and electronic copies of the slides will be made available.


Certificates of Attendance are available on request.


This course is organised by UNISON Cymru Wales and is funded by the Wales Union Learning Fund (WULF). To attend this course, you must be living/working in Wales and be employed within the public services sector.
