Anal Sphincter Injury following labour is the most common cause of anal incontinence in women, that can severely diminish the quality of life and lead to considerable physical and psychological impact. Overt sphincter injury can occur in 1–3% of women undergoing vaginal birth. Prompt recognition and adequate primary repair are paramount to good continence.
