About this Event
Instituto Cervantes in New York, in collaboration with the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, the Consulate General of Chile in New York, and the North-American Chilean Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to invite you to the next session of Mamalluca: Chilean Cinema Series, a program celebrating contemporary Chilean cinema and its powerful ability to imagine possible futures from the Global South.
This session will feature a screening of Play (2005), directed by Alicia Scherson, Chile’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards. The film tells the story of Cristina, a young woman from southern Chile who works as a caretaker in Santiago and becomes entangled in the fragmented lives of others, exploring themes of identity, urban solitude, and human connection.
Following the screening, join us for a live Zoom Q&A with director Alicia Scherson, introduced by Roberto Brodsky.
