About this Event
This training will introduce attorneys to the legal standards applicable to small and commercial claims in the Small Claims Parts of the New York City Civil Court, procedures for conducting arbitrations and inquests, and provide tips for ensuring that you have positive interactions with the court and litigants.
This training will be in person at the New York County Civil Court. All attendees must pre-register before the training.
In order to be eligible to sit as a small claims arbitrator, you must satisfy the following requirements:
· Be a licensed New York attorney that is registered and in good standing.
· Be admitted to the Bar for at least 5 years, 2 years for court attorneys (you may train before you are eligible to sit as an arbitrator).
· Complete two hours of anti-bias training.
· Complete the small claims arbitrator training; spend one day or evening observing an experienced arbitrator; and complete a brief interview.
