About this Event
This event explores the life of George Mallory, the world-famous mountaineer and member of Magdalene College, who lost his life on Everest one hundred years ago.
Three compelling presentations on aspects of Mallory's wide-ranging experience as a student, a husband to Ruth and a legendary explorer, will be given by a distinguished panel of experts: Dr Christopher Stray (University of Swansea and Visiting Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge, who has written widely on the history of universities, student life and education); Katherine McInnes (author – as Kate Nicholson -- of Behind Everest: Ruth Mallory's Story); and Mick Conefrey (the author of Fallen, a new biography of George Mallory).
The talks will end with a discussion and a chance for questions from the audience, followed by a drinks reception.
This event is a curtain raiser for the Exhibition 'George Mallory: Magdalene to the Mountain' 20 June - 28 September 2024. Please see https://www.magd.cam.ac.uk/the-robert-cripps-gallery.
