Join us for a special soirée in the courtyard to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Australian classic film, Malcolm. The Canberra Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble will perform arrangements from the film's soundtrack by The Penguin Cafe Orchestra ahead of the film screening at 8 pm. A Q&A with director Nadia Tass and producer David Parker will follow the screening.
Celebrating 40 years since its release, Malcolm tells the story of a socially awkward tram enthusiast who befriends two small-time bank robbers. Mechanically gifted, he inadvertently designs an ingenious getaway car and becomes an accomplice to the crime.
As Malcolm’s confidence grows, the film unfolds a gentle tale of trust, intelligence and belonging. Lightly comic and deeply humane, the film celebrates difference while grounding its playful crime elements in character rather than criminality.
Starring Colin Friels as Malcolm, the film is written by husband and wife duo David Parker and Nadia Tass, who also directs the film.
Malcolm won eight AFI (now AACTA) Awards, including Best Film and Best Screenplay.
