Since its first iteration in 2016, the Mid-Atlantic Leadership Conference has welcomed Burning Man and local community leaders from around the region to share ideas and best practices, and to inspire and learn from one another. MALC 2025 will consist of a weekend of programming designed to promote knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, community development, and relationship building. Attendees include current and prospective Burning Man Regional Contacts, board members, producers and department leads of Regional events, theme camp leaders, other Burning Man and local community leaders, as well as artists who are interested in building art for Regional events and/or their local communities.
Here’s a rough outline of 2025 weekend’s events….
Friday, April 4: Explore historic South Street! Experience Philadelphia’s bustling counter-culture esplanade. Meet up for a happy hour starting at 4:00, see the sights, view some art, and sample the local cuisine before convening at a local art studio for the conference kickoff event. The evening will include introductions, some light networking, an interactive ice breaker, lively discussions, drinks, dancing, and more!
Saturday, April 5: We’ll meet in the historic Wanamaker Building, next to Philadelphia’s City Hall. This National Historic Landmark was opened in 1876, as the home of one of the nation’s first department stores. Breakfast begins at 8am, and programming at 9am, with a variety of speakers and discussions planned. We’ll break at Noon for a long lunch to allow everyone to relax and explore the neighborhood, before reconvening at 2pm for a full afternoon of programming. Saturday night there will be a party for MALC attendees with drinks and dancing, as well as multiple other burner events happening around the city.
Sunday, April 6: Back to the Wanamaker Building for breakfast at 9am, and programming begins at 10:00am. We’ll hear from a new set of speakers, review the proposals for the Civic Ignition Grant, and make a final recommendation to Burners Without Borders. The conference wraps up by 2pm, and participants are encouraged to check out the Philadelphia Maker Faire or the Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden later in the afternoon.
FirePony Creative Society is proud to be the sponsor for the Mid Atlantic Leadership Conference.
