Get ready for an amazing evening with Makoto Kessoku performing live on piano! This in-person event is your chance to explore evolution of keyboard expression from the Baroque to Impressionism.

Makoto is a Japanese pianist based in New York and New Jersey, active as both a performer and educator.
She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Virtuoso Course at Musashino Academia Musicae, and in 2025 completed the Diploma Course at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
She won First Prize at the 9th Beten Piano Competition National Finals and received the Silver Prize at the 20th Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia National Finals, among other awards.
In January 2025, she appeared as a soloist with the Tokyo International Arts Association Orchestra, performing Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2.
She has studied with Keiko Sunohara, Susumu Aoyagi, Nobuyuki Nagaoka, Edward Auer, and Sofya Gulyak, and has participated in masterclasses with Kemal Gekić, Bruno Rigutto, Elisabeth Leonskaja, and Eteri Andjaparidze.
While rooted in classical music, she performs in a wide range of genres including pop, appearing in various live performances and concerts. She has also been involved in the production of a CD in collaboration with a local radio station.
She is currently based in NY and NJ, where she is active as both a performer and a teacher.
武蔵野音楽大学江古田附属音楽教室にてピアノを学ぶ。東京都立総合芸術高等学校音楽科卒業。武蔵野音楽大学ヴィルトゥオーソ学科卒業。同大学大学院音楽研究科修士課程ヴィルトゥオーゾコース修了。2016年〜2017年、2019年度福井直秋記念奨学金給費奨学金奨学生。 2025年には米国インディアナ大学ジェイコブス音楽院、ディプロマコースを修了。
第９回ベーテン音楽コンクール全国大会第１位。第20回ショパン国際ピアノコンクールin Asia全国大会 銀賞、Asia大会奨励賞、その他多数受賞。第90回読売新聞社主催新人演奏会Finalに選抜。2025年1月には東京国際芸術協会管弦楽団とラフマニノフピアノ協奏曲第２番を共演。
これまでに、林麻由美、春原恵子、青柳晋、永岡信幸、Edward Auer、Sofya Gulyakの各氏に師事するほか、Kemal Gekić、Bruno Rigutto、Elisabeth Leonskaja、Eteri Andjaparidzeの各氏にレッスンを受ける。クラシックを軸にポップスなど幅広いジャンルでライブやコンサートに出演し、地元ラジオ局とのコラボレーションによるCD制作にも携わる。現在はNY・NJを拠点に演奏・指導活動を行っている。
