The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at Atlantic Station, 1380 Atlantic Dr. NW, Atlanta. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged at www.makingstrideswalk.org/Atlanta.Funds raised through Making Strides allow the American Cancer Society to serve breast cancer patients and their families through:
• Cancer information and resources available at www.cancer.org or by calling the 24/7 helpline at 800-227-2345. Live chat and video chat options are also available.
• A mobile app where newly diagnosed breast cancer patients can connect one-on-one with trained breast cancer survivors for support during their journey.
• ACS-funded researchers who are still in the lab seeking breakthrough treatments and running clinical trials.
• The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network where advocates work with national, state, and local governments to push for policy changes that help cancer patients and their families.
According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2024, an estimated 313,510 women and men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. In Georgia, 9,840 women are expected to be diagnosed.
