About this Event
During the late fall and winter seasons supporting our immunity is so important. In our modern culture so many of us don’t know about the incredibly effective herbal remedies that we can make in our own kitchens to support ourselves and our loved ones! There are many common herbs that you can find at your grocery store (or local apothecary or co-op) that will not only help your body fight sickness if you catch a cold or cough, but also there are remedies that work great to help prevent getting sick as well.
In this very experiential class we’ll be talking about different herbs that can support you right now in the season, and you learn some incredible recipes you can easily make at home! This is known as kitchen herbalism, or what I call our grandmother’s medicine.
You’ll learn how to make an Herbal Cough Syrup for soothing your throat, and how to support your immunity through herbal remedies in the fall and winter months. There are many incredible recipes for a good cough syrup, and in this one we’ll use Hibiscus Flowers, Plantain Leaf, Marshmallow Root, Licorice and honey. We will also learn how to make Fire Cider - a time trusted remedy for daily immune support popularized by the incredible herbalist Rosemary Gladstar.
You will be able to sample both herbal remedies, and receive a recipe to recreate each at home! This class is open to those who are curious, and want to deepen in their awareness of working with what I call our “green allies.”
These everyday herbalism classes at The Center SF with Crystal Marie Higgins are fun and interactive ways to learn more about the power of what is called “kitchen herbalism” - wonderful herbs that you can experiment with in the kitchen (and their properties for your health).
The deep and powerful wisdom of the herbal realm has mostly been forgotten in our modern culture. Plants, flowers, trees and herbs are incredible allies for our health. There is deep solace to be found in the simplest of rituals like sipping a cup of herbal tea or rubbing oil on your temples and feet at the end of the day. And knowing what herbs can support your system when you feel sick or overwhelmed is powerful.
NOTE : This class is not intended to treat or diagnose. Herbalism doesn’t have to be put in the place of either or - working with plants can support anything else you are doing to support your system and overall health. All of our ancestors at some point had a deep connection to the land, to the herbs and plants or green realm, to the animals and waters in order to survive. This connection to our roots and deeper belonging was severed, and it is time to reclaim the wisdom we all long for again.
