About this Event
Welcome to Making Grammar SOAR!
This practical workshop will suggest ways to make grammar topics and materials of different levels SOAR: how can we Supplement, Omit, Adapt and Replace activities and sections in the books we use? By situating language practice in the concrete realities of our students, their knowledge base and skills set are likely to become stronger and firmer. They are also more likely to feel engaged and motivated: even if the book does not reflect their reality, their teacher’s use of the book will.
Anchored in sociopragmatics and (critical) discourse analysis, the workshop will explore a range of genres, including music, film and advertising, to propose games, tasks and project work that can help us to give at least as much importance to appropriateness and intercultural sensitivity in our language work as to correction and accuracy.
The workshop will partly be based on the following (optional!) form that you’re invited to complete if you’ll be attending, so that your interests are taken into account in the planning of the workshop: https://forms.gle/vK35YSgqyKoAC6yV6
