This is an immersive five-day exploration of glass as both material and metaphor.
About this Event

This is an immersive five-day exploration of glass as both material and metaphor. Through hands-on practice, you’ll learn fundamental techniques across hot, warm, and cold processes while being encouraged to experiment, take risks, and embrace spontaneity.

This class is less about mastering technical perfection and more about experiencing glass as a catalyst for creativity. By blending structured exercises with open-ended making, participants will leave with not only finished pieces, but also a broadened relationship of glass within their own creative practices.

What to Expect: This five-day workshop is designed for artists and creatives, especially those new to glass, who want to explore the material as a medium of expression. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of processes, including hot glass, sheet glass fabrication, kiln work (slumping, fusing, casting), cold working, cutting, adhesives, and screen printing.

The workshop emphasizes process over product. You’ll engage in varied creative physical and conceptual exercises that will act as seeds. Every day we will explore idea development through different ways of thinking, as well as analytical and unorthodox methodologies. Success in this class is defined not by the objects you create, but by the insights and methods you carry forward into your own work.

We will also plan to have one virtual meeting before the class for introductions.

Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.

Eligibility: This workshop is open to all levels although some experience working with glass is recommended.  Open to ages 14 and up.

Additional work time for intensive students: Students will also have access to additional hours in the studio, without instruction, on Tuesday - Friday from 5-8pm. Students must be able to work safely in the studio, and be able to set up their area without needing instruction. Students participating in student hours will need to be approved by the instructor and TA’s.

We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at [email protected] if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
