There’s something fitting about painting butterflies and blooms on the grounds of Ford House, where the gardens come alive each spring along the shore of Lake St. Clair. In partnership with Anton Art Center, the Maker Studio at Ford House welcomes artist Kathie Bugajski for a guided afternoon of acrylic painting on canvas.Maker Studio is Ford House’s hands-on creative workshop series, bringing local artists and makers directly to this historic lakeside setting. Each session is designed to give participants a genuine creative experience, not just a craft activity.
Working in acrylic, you’ll explore color blending, brushwork, and texture as you build a composition of butterflies and blooms. You’ll leave with a finished canvas painting to take home. All supplies are included.
Instructor Bio
Kathie Bugajski holds a B.F.A. from Wayne State University with concentrations in Painting and Sculpture. After graduating in 2011, she spent three years mentoring under the late Janice Trimpe, sculptor of many of Michigan's most beloved monuments. Drawn to the methods of the old masters, she went on to study at Art Atelier Studio in Royal Oak from 2018 to 2021, then continued with The Detroit Realists of Art Atelier in Redford from 2022 to 2025. Her work has appeared in galleries across Michigan, earning multiple awards along the way. She has also taken on painting commissions and church sculpture restorations throughout the state. Teaching, for Kathie, is about helping people discover the creativity that's already inside them.
