About this Event
Participants will learn the basics of block printing by carving their own custom leaf stamp, then spend the rest of the time layering prints onto organic cotton totes using their own as well as a shared collection of hand-carved stamps and earthy botanical-colored inks.
Part printmaking class, part collaborative art experiment, this workshop encourages playful composition and slow creativity. Attendees will leave with a hand-printed organic tote bag rich with overlapping patterns, organic color palettes, and a stamp they carved themselves to continue printing at home.
About the teacher:
Caleigh Bird is a block print artist, college art professor, and firm believer that beautiful, well-made items make everyday life feel a little more enchanted. When not teaching or in her home studio, she’s usually hiking ridge-lines or cruising the backroads in her converted camper van Vaughn, gathering textures, patterns, and quiet moments that later find their way into her carvings. Just as much as the Appalachian wildlife discovered on her adventures, Caleigh’s work is heavily inspired by her tribe: women who cherish slow mornings, well-used sketchbooks, and pockets full of found leaves and feathers.
