Make Science Happen: Get Going with Physics
April 11, 2026, 2:00 – 4:00pm PDT
SFU Burnaby,
Join us for an exclusive in-person event that’s only for new physics students. Your parents and supporters are also welcome to attend!
Discover how to set yourself up for success in your first year, learn about our unique “Adopt-A-Physicist" program, and get prepared to thrive in a dynamic job market where quantum and other advancements are creating new career and research opportunities for physics graduates.
See inside the physics department and hear from professors and current students. Interact with experiential demos and tour the Trottier Observatory. Also, come prepared with any and all questions, as you’ll have lots of time for “Ask Me Anything” opportunities with the student panel.
Here are more details about the afternoon’s plans:
- Get started with a warm welcome from professor Levon Pogosian, SFU Physics department chair, and more information about the department’s six majors and minors
- Ask current physics undergrads all your questions about the physics program, opportunities to get involved and student life - none are too big or small
- Mingle over refreshments with profs and students
- Play with interactive and dramatic demonstrations, highlighting various principles of physics
- Join Joanna Woo, astrophysicist, for a short tour of the Universe and the latest research about galaxies
- Tour the Trottier Observatory, and if the clouds stay away: see the stars (yes, many are visible in broad daylight!)
See you soon for Make Science Happen: Get Going with Physics!
