Bands Undercover
Bands Undercover will be held again this year at Knuckleheads on Sunday, June 21st from 3:00-5:00 PM This unique event that is part of Make Music Day, an event that takes place in over 1,000 cities worldwide, celebrating the Summer Solstice on June 21st. Presented by the NAMM Foundation in association with the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department. .
The Bands Undercover event has been held at Knuckleheads since Kansas City began the city-wide celebration. The venue itself hosts some of the best musicians around the metro area and all over the country and beyond.
Bringing together a variety of musicians to perform original songs in a unique exchange as part of this global celebration that will encompass the true roots of Kansas City music from Jazz grooves to Jump Blues.
Featured artists over the past six years has included: T.J. Ehrhardt, Chase McRoy, Patrick Recob, Russ 'Kidman' Schenke, Karl Angerer, Mike Shinetop Sedovic, and special guest, Dwight Dario, Brandon Hudspeth, Jacque Garoutte, Adam Hagerman, Howard Mahan, Sean McDonnell, Stranded In The City: Andre Reyes, Antonio Reyes, Matt Elton, Timmy Keith, and Heather Newman.

Bands Undercover for Make Music Day KC has welcomed the following artists:
T.J. Erhardt
T.J. has been a strong fixture of the Kansas City music scene, whether as a sideman for many regionally well-known bands, notably The Nace Brothers, for the last two decades, or as a performer in his own right, headlining shows. The one thing you can always expect is a quality musical performance, regardless of the musical genre, and the uncanny positivity comes out naturally in his playing and personality.
In recent years, he brought Vince Guaraldi’s A Charlie Brown Christmas jazz soundtrack to life in its entirety with T.J. and the Tattletales which is quickly becoming an annual holiday favorite.
Chase McRoy
Chase McRoy is a versatile bassist who plays anything and everything from jazz, blues rock, rockabilly all around Kansas City. He plays in just as diverse bands as his influences, including the Tim Whitmer Good Time Quartet, the Nace Brothers Acoustic Trio, and the high-energy trio known as the Vincents. Besides his 200-250 gigs per year, he also teaches bass privately and studio work.
Russel "KidMan" Schenke
Russel "KidMan" Schenke is a well-known regional harmonica favorite and performs in local KC bands Brigett & Her Bandoliers and The Mighty Phonics, and offers his support with a variety of visiting bands as well.
Russ leads the Hohner Harmonica Experience for Beginners as part of Make Music Kansas City for harmonica enthusiasts, bringing his dedication for traditional harp licks from Chicago to the West Coast and funneling his own diverse experience into the session.
Karl Angerer
Karl Angerer is a guitarist who is deeply intrinsic to traditional Blues music in and around Kansas City. He’s been at the forefront of several noteworthy bands here in KC, including The Blues Notions, Lee McBee and the Confessors, and King King. In addition, he’s recorded and produced for many artists as well as touring with artists like Excello Records pioneer Lazy Lester and more recently Kurt Crandall’s 2022 release Starts On The Stops. Currently, he’s active with The Mighty Phonics, King King, and recently Macolm Wells and the Two Timers.
Patrick Recob
He has emceed Make Music Kansas City’s Bands Undercover and lends support to fellow musicians, whether on vocals and guitar where needed.
Patrick Recob is recognized primarily as a bassist and vocalist on a regional and national level. He is one of the founding members of The Mighty Phonics and is currently the bassist with the Kansas City-based band The House Rockers and with The Matt Woods Band in the Des Moines area.
Mike "Shinetop" Sedovic
Mike Shinetop Sedovic has a reputation that precedes him as a musician. He is a keyboardist and vocalist who has played with a vast array of artists and genres both nationally and internationally, including Trampled Under Foot, The Blues Notions, and more recently The Mighty Phonics. He’s an inductee to the Kansas Music Hall of Fame and performed on a Grammy-nominated album, and is comfortable from Beethoven to boogie woogie.
Dwight Dario
Dwight Dario is a drummer who has worked with top bands and artists in a multitude of genres over his entire career. He has been recognized for his expansive musicianship and was inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame in 2014 and currently plays in high-profile Blues bands in Kansas City and Des Moines.
