Melanie Charles and co-host Yunie Mojica will lead a community conversation with Grammy Award winning jazz drummer, composer, and educator Terri Lyne Carrington, who is the founder and artistic director of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice. Terri Lyne Carrington is an NEA Jazz Master, four-time Grammy-winning drummer, composer, producer, and educator, and the Founder and Artistic Director of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice. Over her 40-year career, she has performed on more than 100 recordings, collaborated with jazz legends like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and earned numerous accolades for her work in music and education, including the critically acclaimed album "new STANDARDS vol.1" and the seminal songbook "New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets By Women Composers."
Melanie Charles is a Brooklyn-born vocalist, flutist, and producer known for her genre-bending sound that blends jazz, soul, and experimental music, capturing the sentiments of a generation. A dynamic artist and mentor, she has collaborated with notable figures like Terri Lyne Carrington and SZA, and her latest album, "Y’all Don’t (Really) Care About Black Women," showcases her versatility and commitment to pushing sonic and political boundaries.
Yunie Mojica is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer with 15 years of experience in the performing arts, currently serving as the Programming and Partnerships Manager at City Parks Foundation, SummerStage, and Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. With a background in arts presentation, concert production, and music education, she holds a BA in Music Management and Jazz Studies from the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music and Jackie McLean Institute.
