About this Event
Penny rugs were originally created from discarded scraps of felted wool. Using pennies and other coins as templates the felt was cut into circles and stitched to a wool backing in a pleasing design with decorative stitches.
These penny rugs were not traditionally made as actual rugs for the floor, but rather they were used as decorative coverings for beds, tables, pillows or wall hangings.
