Make your own art journal! I like to reuse things whenever possible. So, when I had accumulated a significant pile of small brown paper bags I decided to try making a paper bag art journal. I fell in love with them! We will use new paper bags in class because they are much tidier, but I hope you will use this to make more art journals with your stash of paper bags! This method provides you with a journal that has pockets that you can secure closed so it is a great way of keeping things together. It would make a great travel journal. We will assemble the journal and work on a page layout using paint and collage. Collage fodder can be made in many ways, and we will use stencils to make a few gelli prints to create a cover for our journal and some collage papers. I will also provide book pages and other paper ephemera to use in your journals.
This class is perfect for someone just getting into making art but will also have techniques interesting to an experienced artist. It is a very accessible form of book making that doesn’t require any sewing. An art journal is a great place to experiment with art supplies and different techniques. You will leave with an art journal that is ready for you to keep making art.
