Join us for a unique workshop with local artist Traci Ores as she guides you in creating your very own fairy door, just in time for Beltane! We will be piecing together an array of materials and using heavy body medium and crackle paint to create the look and texture of weathered wood. Inks, stains and acrylic paints will also be used. We will finish by adding some decorative elements in the form of dried flowers, moss, acorns, and metal embellishments. Although all materials will be provided, if there is something special you would like to incorporate into your fairy door, please feel free to bring that with you.
From the maker:
Hi, my name is Traci, and I’ve been teaching art for over 20 years. I’ve worked with K–12 students in public schools as well as children and adults in local nonprofit art organizations, and I truly love helping people discover their creativity. My goal is always to create a relaxed, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves through art.
I have forever been drawn to whimsical and imaginative work, but after my daughter was born, that love grew even stronger as I saw how magical the world can feel through a child’s eyes. I want to help preserve that sense of wonder and innocence in childhood, and creating fairy doors became a natural way to do that. We have a fairy garden in our backyard, and setting it up each spring has become a special tradition for us. My daughter, who is now six, loves to help forage for tiny treasures like pinecones, bark, twigs, and acorns to use in my designs. One day she even came home from school with her little backpack stuffed full of sticks and bark, proudly telling me she had found materials at recess for my doors. Moments like that capture the little bit of magic that inspires the work I’m excited to share in this workshop. I look forward to working with all of you at the workshop!
