Please join the VFW Connecticut, Jewish War Veterans, The American Legion, and Association of 3rd Armored Division Veterans as we remember and honor the life and service of Major General Maurice Rose, a hometown hero of Middletown, CT, who made the supreme sacrifice leading his Soldiers if the 3rd Armored Division in battle during WWII. Maurice Rose, born in Middletown in 1899, son of a rabbi, was the highest ranking officer killed in action in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) in WWII.
The ceremony will take place at 508 Main Steet, Middletown, Connecticut, his birthplace, on Sunday, March 29th @1pm. The ceremony will feature tributes to Major General Rose with Veteran speakers, military honor guard, Army wreath laying ceremony and the sounding of Taps.
We will also commemorate the 3rd Armored Division ("Spearhead") discovery and liberation of the Dora-Mittelbau concentration camp near Nordhausen, Germany, on April 11, 1945, just 12 days after the loss of Division’s Commanding General, Maurice Rose.
The event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. The ceremony is open to everyone and veterans, community leaders, and the grateful public are invited to attend.
Event organizer and Master of Ceremonies is Brian Willette, Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW National Sergeant at Arms, & member of the Association of 3rd Armored Division Veterans.
