On Sunday, May 11th, it’s all happening as The Mahoning Drive-In Theater’s “Mahoning Music Series” returns, inviting you to hop on the bus and hit the road with Stillwater, a band just on the cusp of being ALMOST FAMOUS (2000), in Cameron Crowe’s semiautobiographical love letter to 1970s rock and roll.Starring Patrick Fugit as William Miller, a teenage rock writer with an overprotective but supportive mother (Frances McDormand) who, against her better judgment, lets him hit the road with a rock band on the upswing to write a article for ROLLING STONE (who may overestimate his age and experience).
On the bus, in the arenas and hotel rooms, William will meet “band aid” Penny Lane (Kate Hudson), Stillwater guitar hero Russell Hammond (Billy Crudup), and a traveling carnival of performers, managers, fans and hangers-on in a musical and emotional journey he’ll never forget.
