As the largest and grandest of churches in the Christian faith, cathedrals have been designed throughout history to celebrate God's glory. In response to these magnificent buildings, composers have in turn been inspired to create their finest, most uplifting music. This program of choral music features masterpieces from the so-called English Musical Renaissance —Finzi’s Lo the Full Final Sacrifice, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb and Parry's Blest Pair of Sirens — alongside Australian composer Edgar Bainton’s And I Saw a New Heaven (1928), and new compositions by prominent young West Australians Lydia Gardiner and Perry Joyce. Gardiner’s Lift Thine Eyes features the upper voices of the choir whilst Joyce’s Canticles, sung in the Noongar language, is quickly earning the status of a modern-day classic. Performed in the awe-inspiring St. Mary's Cathedral, this concert will transport you to a place of beauty and praise.MUSIC DIRECTOR: DAVID WOODS
PERFORMED BY: CLASSICAL VOICE STUDENTS WITH DAVID WOODS (CONDUCTOR) AND STEWART SMITH (ORGAN)
