Presented by Magic City Smooth Jazz, this year’s Legacy Series pays tribute to Bernard Lockhart, the visionary founder and former Executive Director whose passion for community and jazz left an indelible mark. With a mission rooted in fostering arts access across Birmingham, Bernard established Magic City Smooth Jazz and its flagship event, Jazz in the Park — platforms that brought smooth jazz into underserved neighborhoods and cultivated community spirit.

Headliner: Bassist, Julian Vaughn
A master of groove, Vaughn brings melodic depth and vibrant energy, fusing classical technique with soulful improvisation—perfectly capturing the smooth jazz essence Bernard championed.
Opening Act: Trumpeter, Daniel José Carr Jazz Quartet
Carr, known for his dynamic tone and expressive flair, is joined by a group of talented musicians that layer rhythmic elegance with flair—setting an uplifting tone right from the start.
Special Dance Performance by John & Rachel Lockhart
Bernard’s son and daughter take the stage in a heartfelt tribute, blending contemporary and jazz dance to celebrate their father’s passion and lifelong dedication to the arts.
