About this Event
magCulture Live is the only live event focusing on the creative side of magazine publishing. Each edition—we run one in New York and one in London every year—showcases the best creative editorial projects, with speakers from across the magazine spectrum sharing their work and inspiring our audience.
It features a series of talks from the people behind today’s most innovative magazines. Each will provide their own unique insight into the role of the magazine in contemporary culture.
This year’s London line-up is still being finalised but we’re excited to share the first two names, both flying in from New York to share their work. More names to follow!
Book an earlybird ticket now and save £15 per place.
For this eleventh edition of magCulture Live London, we return to the Vitsoe space in Marylebone (above). We’ve worked with Vitsoe since 2014 , and use their 606 shelving, 620 chairs and 621 tables in our London shop. We also collaborate annually as part of the magCulture Live New York.
Their central London shop features a brutalist double-height open space that converts into a live venue for magCulture Live. Doors open at 12noon, the event starts at 1pm and runs through to 5pm, when everyone’s welcome to stick around for a beer and chat. The magCulture pop-up shop will on site alongside partner displays.
We hope you’ll join us live in London, but are also offering livestream tickets for those further away. All ticket holders will have free access to a video of the talks after the event.
Earlybird tickets are available at a reduced rate until September 30.
This year we’ll also be staying at the same venue for a couple of days after the main event for MagMagMag, a pop-up magazine shop and series of free events. Details to follow.

Meet our first speakers
Richard Turley
Interview, Rolling Stone, Offal et al
Richard is one of, if not the, most influential and important magazine makers working today. He made his name in the noughties as the design half of the reinvention of Bloomberg Businessweek, after which he left editorial design to first try television at MTV, and then advertising/branding at Weiden Kennedy. He returned to publishing with his own project, Civilization, in 2018 and has since taken on increasing numbers of editorial projects, each one an experiment in its own right.
These include taking Interview back to its Warholian roots, questioning the meaning of the fashion magazine with Nuts, and providing literary mags Heavy Traffic and Offal with unique visual identities based on production methods. He has also established himself as a provocative observer of the magazine industry.
His most recent magazine work is a cleverly subtle redesign of another New York stalwart, Rolling Stone.

FAQs
What is magCulture Live? Previously known as known as ModMag, the conference has been held annually in London since 2013, starting life as a celebration/launch of Jeremy Leslie’s book ‘The Modern Magazine’. We have now organised ten live London editions and five live New York editions— plus three Zoom editions during the Covid lockdown.
What is it about? The day presents the most innovative and interesting creative work in magazine publishing, with editors and art directors uniting to share their thoughts and ideas. We don't duck the big issues facing print publishing, but neither do we fall for the easy, negative narratives surrounding the industry. magCulture Live is a celebration and reminder of the power of magazine creativity —if you know the MagCulture Journal you’ll have a sense of the scope and focus of the event.
Is there a theme to the day? We’ll be celebrating the creativity of the magazine industry, bringing together the publishing community for a session of creative inspiration. Alongside that, this year the theme ‘Format’ will be drawing attention to the differences in size, scale and periodicity that ahelp every magazine to establich its own identity.
Who is magCulture Live for? The day is aimed at publishing professionals, design and journalism students and graduates, and anyone with a creative curiousity. The ability to develop an editorial voice is in everyone’s hands today via digital channels. Hear from leading editorial practitioners how they are handling this responsibility.
Who organises magCulture Live? magCulture Live is produced by magCulture, led by founder Jeremy Leslie and Danielle Mustarde. Read the magCulture Journal for a sense of what/who we are.
